Physiotherapy is an evidence-based autonomous profession that enables you to develop, maintain and restore people's maximum movement and functional ability. Physiotherapy helps people of any age, when movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors. As a physiotherapist, you will be an expert of human movement and help people improve and sustain wellbeing within the various health spheres. The Degree provides you with a broad education in the study and treatment of movement disorders and related pathologies. It gives you the opportunity to develop personally, intellectually and professionally. During the programme you will learn about the academic and practical practice of the role while also being under supervised clinical practice and research. As a graduate, you will be a competent professional who will meet the standards for registration with the Council for the Professions Complimentary to Medicine in Malta.
The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.
An Advanced Level pass at Grade C or better in Biology and a pass at Intermediate Level in Physics.
The number of students shall be limited to 28 students.
During the first year of the Course, students are also required to undergo an occupational health assessment so as to ascertain that they are fit for the duties related to their proposed studies. Students who do not fulfil this requirement may be barred from progressing with their studies. Failure to disclose information about a physical or mental health problem that could affect patient safety is considered to be a serious breach of the University Suitability to Practise Regulations.

observe and practise under supervision in various settings where a physiotherapy service is delivered.

orient yourself to a research-based approach in order to be involved in the advancement of knowledge in physiotherapy as a practising clinician.

On successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Council for the Professions Complementary to Medicine both locally and in Europe. Once registered as a physiotherapist, you can look forward to state employment within the Department of Health, Care of the Elderly, and the Department of Education, as well as employment in the private sector both on an individual basis and/or in private hospitals. You may also be employed in the field of hotels, leisure and in industries. Other career opportunities are also available in academia, where access to Masters/ or Doctoral programmes are available both locally and overseas. These opportunities would facilitate you with an introduction into teaching posts, or areas of specialisation. Primary health care is an area where this profession has proven to be a major role.
